Let Art be a mean to explore your creativity
indulge in yourself
and experience the Beauty!
I know ‘Art’ cannot be portrayed in just few words. But the beauty of art with its imagination and creative skills has really caught my interest and made me research on its basic history. Art is just not dimensioned towards paintings, but it is a diversified term. Visual arts more or less refers to creation of one’s imagination into images or objects which would nearly include paintings, sculpture, photography and other such visual source of arts. Apart from visual term towards arts we also have music, theatre, film and literature that fall under the diversified stream of arts.
We could literally define arts as “The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power”. We have many philosophers and others who had defined arts in terms of mimeses (imitation), expression and other such values. The theory of mimeses in relation to art and literature was introduced by a well known philosopher, Plato in his book called ‘Republic’ and ‘Ion’ and its counterpart was done by Aristotle in his work called ‘Poetics’.
To the history of arts, Palaeolithic or Ice age art is the oldest undisputed prehistoric art (25,000 BC). To the recent times till the 17th century art was not differentiated from crafts and science. It was during the romantic period where art was classified from science and religion, and this kind of creativity and imagination are explored into a philosophy known as Aesthetics. Aesthetics deals with the nature of beauty, art, and taste, with the creation and appreciation of beauty truly.
In modern times arts is mostly and basically referred to ‘fine arts’. Fine arts virtually includes all forms of art like visual art and performing art forms, such as painting, sculpture, collage, calligraphy, music, dance, theatre, architecture, film, photography, conceptual art, and printmaking and still more to it.
I conclude by quoting Oscar Wilde who was a poet and writer during the Romantic Period and also spokesman for aestheticism.
“It is through Art, and through Art only, that we can realise our perfection through Art, and through Art only, that we can shield ourselves from the sordid perils of actual existence.”
“Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life”
